Every day I see this quote from Warren Buffett in our garage: “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.”

It’s helped keep the focus on being smart with our money and using it to grow itself.

If we spend 100% of every dollar we come across, we will indeed work until we die.

Or until we find a sugar momma (or daddy) to provide for us.

Putting some of that money into growing, cash-flowing businesses has been one of the best ways to do that.

But I call bullshit on Warren Buffett, who, at 93 years old, is still working every day.

Or is he?

It’s debatable because Warren actually “retired” in 1969 when he wound down the Buffett Partnership – almost 55 years ago.

Warren says he loves what he’s doing and the people he’s doing it with, has a lot of fun, and tap dances to work every day.

So, perhaps by “work,” he means doing anything you don’t want to do in exchange for compensation.

But doing things you enjoy that may happen to compensate you isn’t really “work.”

And the more money you have available that requires no extra labor, the more you will be able to do what you want, when you want, with who you want.

Maybe the correct interpretation is, “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will have to do things you don’t want to do until you die.”

One last thought that I’ve been working on is never “retiring.”

Meaning, I know people who retired FROM something and not TO something.

And they ultimately went back to what they were doing before because they lost their identity and daily structure.

But that’s a different discussion for a different day.

I’d love it if you let me know what you’d love to do if money was not a factor.
